In hypocalcemic patients, the most accurate measurement of serum calcium should include an adjustment for hyper or hypo albuminemia. Serum calcium is bound to proteins specifically albumin in the blood. It is essential that the clinician make the appropriate adjustment for hyper or hypo albuminemia to most effectively treat serum calcium abnormalities.
This application is a clinician tool to assist the provider in determining most accurate calcium level in the presence of varying albumin levels when an ionized calcium is unavailable.
